Gymnema Sylvestre Extract

Gymnema sylvestre extract comes from the gymnema plant found in southern Asia and India. Historically, parts of the plan have been used to treat all manners of conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and aid in weight loss. At one point, the National Institute of Health remarked that gymnema extract may be useful in decreasing the blood sugar of patients with diabetes, and that it possibly could be used in lowering cholesterol levels. This has resulted in an onslaught of dietary supplements touting the qualities of gymnema, claiming all varieties of beneficial properties.

Hydroxycut – one of the most popular dietary supplements containing gymnema extract – was recently recalled by the United States Food and Drug Administration, because of the link between the product and liver failure in over 20 patients. One death has already been reported as a result of Hydroxycut usage. If you or a loved one has used Hydroxycut, either currently or in the past, contact a Hydroxycut recall attorney today to determine if you are owed compensation for your damages.

The United States Food and Drug Administration does not review the claims of dietary supplements, so in effect, they are allowed to make any claim they choose so long as they follow it with the disclaimer that the product is not intended to treat any disease. However, manufacturers of products are still strictly liable for the safety of the products they produce, and because they have not listed liver failure as a potential side effect of Hydroxycut, they may be liable for any injuries that develop.

If you or a loved one has taken Hydroxycut at any point, immediately contact a Hydroxycut drug recall attorney and we can evaluate your case.
