What is Rhabdomyolysis?

These are not the only risks reportedly associated with the supplement, however. Health officials have warned about other potential health problems Hydroxycut can cause, including a condition called rhabdomyolysis.

Causes and Symptoms of Rhabdomyolysis
Rhabdomyolysis is a painful condition in which the muscles connected to the skeleton begin to break down. It is associated with muscle damage related to trauma or excessive muscle movement, as well as infections, poisons, and toxic chemical exposure. At least one case of rhabdomyolysis connected with Hydroxycut use has been reported in the January 2009 issue of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy.
Rhabdomyolysis causes a rapid deterioration of muscle tissue, creating pain, tenderness, and swelling in the affected area. This deterioration can also release byproducts that are harmful to the body. For example, the protein myoglobin has caused kidney damage in some rhabdomyolysis patients.
In addition to muscle pain, the kidney damage and other complications associated with this condition can cause symptoms like:
- Rapid heartbeat
- Nausea and vomiting
- Disorientation
- Dark urine or blood in the urine
- Respiratory problems
If left untreated, rhabdomyolysis can cause lasting damage or even be fatal. If you or a loved one has developed this dangerous condition after using Hydroxycut, our Hydroxycut recall attorneys can help you fight for compensation.
