IDS Sports Dietary Supplements for Liver Injury Risks

by Administrator 8. December 2009 16:17

The Food and Drug Administration said that IDS Sports Supplements are being recalled because they contain steriods not listed on the labeling. These steriods can cause liver injury and other serious health problems.

While there are no reports of illness in people taking the recalled substances, the use of steriods has been linked to steroid use.

More than a dozen brands of Hydroxycut brand dietary substances were recalled in May 2009 after reports of liver damages. At least one user of the product died as a result of liver failure officials said.

Hydroxycut and Seizures

by Administrator 11. November 2009 15:31

Because of the nature of dietary supplements like Hydroxycut, it's not always clear which of their many ingredients can pose potential problems.  But what has been made clear is that some people who have taken Hydroxycut have suffered serious seizures as a result.  The current evidence suggests that consumers who have experienced seizures relating to Hydroxycut have all been long-term users.  However, even consumers who only took Hydroxycut for a brief period of time may be at risk.

There is no clear understanding of what in Hydroxycut has caused the seizures, but doctors warn that the supplement as a whole is unsafe.

Experts Advise Against Supplement Use

by Administrator 5. November 2009 18:07

According to an article by the Indianapolis Star, experts from across the health care, dietary, and athletic professions are advising people against the use of Hydroxycut and similar supplements, saying that the potential risks aren't worth the advertised benefits.  Furthermore, they suggest that the supposed health benefits are questionable at best.

While 10% of American dieters use supplements, health professionals are quick to point out that they have been linked to liver and heart problems, and that questions still linger about their effectiveness about actually increasing fat burning.

If you or someone you love has experienced health problems as a result of taking dietary supplements, contact the Hydroxycut lawyers of Williams Kherkher today by calling 800-761-3187.

Hydroxycut Efficacy Questions Linger

by Administrator 12. October 2009 11:34

While a reformulated and theoretically less dangerous version of Hydroxycut is already on the shelves, the questions about its ability to actually affect weight loss linger.  Most of the ingredients of the supplement are traditional nutrients, making it what is commonly called a nutraceutical: a drug-like product containing nutritional ingredients which are purported to have a positive effect on health.  However, the health benefits of Hydroxycut, like virtually all nutraceuticals, is not well-supported by research.

Recent studies have suggested that many of the positive benefits attributed to such supplements are due largely to the placebo effect, in which people taking pills expect to see benefits from them, and as a result believe they do.

The FDA and Supplements

by Administrator 1. October 2009 12:13

Because of the potential health risks posed by Hydorxycut, there has been some concern about why the FDA did not exercise over the product sooner, or why the recall did not occur until after someone had already died as a result of the product.  Because of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the FDA considers all dietary supplements as food rather than as drugs in terms of regulation.  While the FDA has considerable more control over drugs, it must have proof of complaints before it can take similar actions against food items or supplements.

Some stores put reformulated Hydroxycut products on shelves

by Administrator 17. September 2009 16:16

Four months after the Hydroxycut recall, many stores are putting the reformulated weight loss supplement on the shelf. The product was removed from most stores in May, when the Food and Drug Administration had not identified the ingredients that might have responsible for liver toxicity complications.

The removal was spurned by the reports that at least one death and at least six people contracted serious liver diseases as a result of taking Hydroxycut products. The reformulated product contains most of the same ingredients, with few variations.

If you or someone you know have taken Hydroxycut and suffered from a liver disease, contact the Hydroxycut lawyers of Williams Kherker at 800-761-3187.

Types of Seizures

by Administrator 8. September 2009 10:52

Seizures are generally classified five ways. The classifications are sensory, motor, autonomic, emotional and cognitive. These classifications are based on the way in which the seizure affects the victim. For instance, a sensory seizure would affect the sensory perception, causing anything from temporary deafness to numbness.

Likewise, other forms of seizures affect their own areas of the brain and body. The most commonly thought of seizure is the motor seizure, affecting the muscles and causing involuntary contractions and convulsions. However, it is important to remember that other types of seizures exist and can be just as dangerous if not treated.

If you or someone you know has suffered seizures brought on by Hydroxycut, contact the Hydroxycut lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.
