One of the main ingredients Hydroxycut boasted which claimed to increase weight loss experienced while taking the drug was Garcinia, a type of fruit common in Indian and Thai cuisine with reputed weight-loss benefits. While studies of the effects of Garcinia on animals conducted in the 1960s suggested that the fruit could indeed decrease weight and encourage fat loss, similar studies on humans in the 1990s were inconclusive. One study found that the control group which took placebos displayed weight loss comensurate with a group which took Garcinia.
Many western nations have been recommeding that their citizens stop taking Hydroxycut due to the potentially serious adverse health reactions. While Garcinia is not thought to be the cause, the severity of the health complaints cannot be ignored.
